Senior Mechanical Technician

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Technician will support expansion projects by carrying out pre‑commissioning, commissioning, preservation and start‑up activities, as well as routine field maintenance across multiple facilities. The role ensures safe and reliable operation of mechanical assets in oil & gas and petrochemical environments.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in pre‑commissioning, commissioning, preservation and start‑up of new equipment and facilities.
• Perform preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance on mechanical equipment in the field and workshop following safe work practices.
• Ensure required materials and spare parts are available and in good condition before work begins.
• Follow maintenance procedures and maintain safety controls on site.
• Provide accurate records and close‑out reports for all completed work.
• Troubleshoot mechanical field issues and produce timely reports.
• Review P&IDs, loop drawings, hook‑up drawings, mechanical datasheets and logic diagrams to resolve issues.
• Use calibrated and certified tools, ensuring compliance with intrinsic safety requirements.
• Participate in regular toolbox meetings and report near‑misses, incidents and accidents.

Required profile

• Completion of secondary school education followed by a vocational training program (TAFE).
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a technician in the oil & gas or petrochemical industry.

Required skills

• Mechanical maintenance (preventive, predictive, breakdown).
• Use of calibrated and certified tools.
• Intrinsic safety (IS) compliance.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
