Staff Software Engineer – Medical Imaging

About the role

Akura Medical, a Shifamed portfolio company, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help design and develop advanced medical imaging systems for its NavIQ™ platform. This full‑time, on‑site position is based at the new R&D facility in Doha, Qatar, and will contribute directly to innovative solutions that improve patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the architecture, design, and integration of scalable medical image processing systems.
• Develop and implement imaging algorithms, visualization tools, and core system components.
• Collaborate with R&D, clinical, regulatory, and manufacturing teams to align technical deliverables with program goals.
• Perform feasibility studies, risk assessments, and trade‑off analyses to guide design decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
• Partner with external vendors to support imaging‑related initiatives.
• Develop and execute testing protocols, verification, and validation processes.
• Contribute to technical documentation required for regulatory submissions.
• Stay current with industry trends and propose improvements to imaging technologies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or related field (M.S. preferred).
• 8+ years of experience in medical imaging systems design and development.
• Strong knowledge of imaging modalities such as X‑ray, MRI, and ultrasound.
• Experience with image processing algorithms and software development best practices.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally and ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, and other regulatory standards.
