Principal Petrophysicist

About the role

The Principal Petrophysicist will lead the collection, analysis and evaluation of petrophysical data for well and reservoir studies, supporting QatarEnergy‑operated oil fields. This senior position works within interdisciplinary reservoir teams to drive field development plans and mentor junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, supervise and coordinate petrophysical data acquisition, including open‑hole, cased‑hole and production logging.
• Analyze and integrate petrophysical, geological and dynamic data to reduce uncertainties in reservoir simulations.
• Develop and quality‑control field development plans and reservoir management strategies.
• Deploy new petrophysical technologies and methodologies to optimise asset value.
• Mentor staff, advise management and contribute to interdisciplinary reservoir studies.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of oil‑and‑gas experience, with at least 6 years in petrophysical studies and operations.
• Strong background in advanced logging techniques, hydrocarbon contact definition and reservoir potential assessment.
• BSc in Engineering, Geosciences, Applied Physics, Applied Electronics or equivalent.
• Experience working in multicultural, integrated asset‑team environments.

Required skills

• Open‑hole (wireline, MWD/LWD), cased‑hole and production logging tools.
• CCAL and SCAL evaluation techniques.
• Geostatistics and 3D geological/property modelling (deterministic and stochastic).
• Horizontal well technology and geo‑steering.
• Statistical and pattern‑recognition methods (neural networks, fuzzy logic, multidimensional histograms).
• Software: Geoframe, TechLog, IP, Petroworks, Openworks, Zmap, Petrel, RMSEmeraude.
