Section Head – Data Governance

About the role

The Section Head – Data Governance Unit will lead the bank’s enterprise data governance framework, ensuring data quality, regulatory compliance, and effective data management across all business units and international branches. This senior leadership position aligns data governance with the bank’s digital transformation, AI strategy, and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and enhance the enterprise data governance framework, policies, and standards.
• Ensure alignment with Qatar Central Bank regulations and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Define and monitor data quality KPIs to improve accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
• Partner with business and IT stakeholders to establish robust data lineage, metadata management, and data cataloging practices.
• Identify and mitigate data‑related risks and implement appropriate governance controls.
• Chair the Data Governance Council and drive accountability for data ownership and stewardship.
• Oversee implementation, adoption, and optimisation of data governance tools and platforms.
• Align data governance initiatives with the bank’s digital transformation and AI strategy.
• Govern master data to maintain a single, trusted source of truth.
• Drive the transition to a federated (hub‑and‑spoke) data governance model.
• Lead organisation‑wide data literacy and awareness initiatives.
• Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits related to data governance.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in data management, with at least 5 years leading enterprise data governance in financial services.
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and data risk management.
• Proven experience driving enterprise‑wide governance initiatives and operating‑model transformations.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Data governance certifications (e.g., CDMP, DAMA, DCAM) preferred.
