Software Engineer – Autonomous Systems (USV / Motion Control)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to design and implement autonomy solutions for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs). The role involves creating control architectures, integrating marine sensors, and ensuring safe operation of converted manned vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement software and control architectures for USVs, including vehicle control modules and integration of propulsion, steering, throttle, and auxiliary systems.
• Develop guidance and navigation functions such as waypoint following, line‑of‑sight guidance, and collision avoidance while respecting COLREGs.
• Create sensor‑fusion and state‑estimation solutions using EKF, UKF, or Particle Filters.
• Integrate marine sensors and navigation systems (radar, AIS, cameras, LiDAR) and associated C2 systems.
• Design fail‑safe and fault‑management mechanisms for communication loss, sensor or engine failures, and emergency‑stop scenarios.
• Develop software across the stack from embedded actuator control to mission and navigation software.
• Integrate marine equipment using CAN/CAN Bus, NMEA 0183/2000 protocols.
• Support system integration, commissioning, testing, and sea trials in collaboration with hardware and systems engineering teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or a related field.
• Strong programming experience in C++.
• Practical experience with autonomous control systems and embedded platforms.
• Familiarity with autonomy frameworks such as MOOS‑IvP, ArduPilot/ArduRover, PX4 or equivalent.
• Experience with real‑time and embedded control systems, SITL/HIL testing, and field trials.
