Assistant Director of Human Resources

About the role

The Assistant Director of Human Resources assists the Director of Human Resources in executing strategies that attract, retain and develop diverse talent. The position directs and works with HR staff to run the daily activities of the HR department, including recruitment, total compensation, employee relations and training and development, in line with the HR Business Plan and applicable regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage staffing and recruiting: advertise open positions, maintain contact with external recruitment sources, network to source candidates, facilitate transfers and promotions, and oversee selection and offer processes for hourly employees
• Recruit management positions with department managers, make hiring decisions and negotiate offers in line with SOPs
• Ensure compliance with policies such as sexual harassment, non-harassment, non-discrimination and no solicitation, and that interviews follow recommended guidelines
• Ensure wages are paid in line with SOPs and labour laws, including overtime provisions and entry-level rates for new hires
• Complete drug screening and background checks per brand SOPs
• Manage workers' compensation claims, educate employees and the HR team on benefits, and provide an overview of benefits to management
• Ensure hourly performance appraisals are in place, support managers with written plans to address employee satisfaction issues, coach managers on progressive discipline, and ensure development plans are documented and tracked
• Use an open-door approach to employee concerns, monitor the work environment for signs of union organisation, and report accident trends to management

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related major
• 4 years of experience in human resources, management operations or a related field, or 2 years of experience with a 2-year degree
