Head of Research – Research and Scientific Support

About the role

Aspetar is looking for a Head of Research for its Research and Scientific Support Department. The role provides strategic leadership for all researchers and support staff, working with the Executive Director of Research and Scientific Support to supervise and achieve the hospital's research objectives. It also plays a key part in internal, local and international research collaborations, including with the International Olympic Committee Research Centre.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop research areas based on the hospital's capabilities and expertise.
• Ensure compliance with Qatar Health Research law, ethics requirements and research safety protocols, working with the hospital-wide leads for ethics and safety.
• Supervise research projects, track milestones and maintain a research project progress record.
• Supervise and support the research department staff, organise and chair team meetings and contribute to staff professional development.
• Liaise with project leaders to share research findings and build international research cooperation with world leaders in the field.
• Manage scheduling, directing, development and performance management of direct reports, and take on other duties assigned by the direct supervisor.
• Complete annual patient safety training, including for all leaders, staff, services and contracted providers.

Required profile

• Minimum 12-15 years of experience, of which 4-7 years in a similar position or responsibility, preferably in a similar industry.
• PhD or higher degree in Sports Science, Human Movement, Biological Sciences, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine or an equivalent field.
• International research reputation in sports injuries, illness, sports medicine or science topics in athletic populations.
• Experience leading scientific teams, including laboratory directorship, health and safety and ethics management.
• Track record in budget development and tracking; experience in competitive sports is an advantage.
• High proficiency in English is mandatory; Arabic is a definite advantage.
