AI Engineer

About the role

The QNB Center for Business Innovation, a partnership between CMU-Q and Qatar National Bank, is hiring an AI Engineer to design and build software that applies artificial intelligence to how business is taught, learned and practiced. The engineer works alongside faculty and Center leadership on interactive learning environments, simulations, decision and analysis tools and more. The position is based in Doha, Qatar.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build AI-enabled software for teaching, learning and business education, from concept to real-world use.
• Work with faculty and Center leadership to turn subject expertise and educational goals into buildable specifications, and advise on reshaping ideas.
• Maintain technical standards with Computing Services: single code repository, shared model-access layer, documentation practice and separate interface text.
• Instrument software to capture evidence of its effect and advise colleagues on what can be measured.
• Run systems in production: deployment, monitoring and responsiveness, and maintain and improve them over time.
• Manage the running costs of AI model usage and handle personal data and credentials to institutional standards.
• Advise on new AI capabilities, guide student developers, review their work, and contribute to planning and project assessments.
• Develop documentation, guides and workshops for using the Center's tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
• At least three years of professional software development experience, including at least one application built on large language models and taken into real use.
• Ability to build complete, working products, including front-end web development usable by non-technical users.
• Experience with prompt and agent design, retrieval over documents and structured data, model evaluation and guardrails for user-facing AI systems.
• Deployment and operational competence: hosting, release process, monitoring and keeping software running reliably.
• Sound practice in handling personal data and credentials, including access control and secrets management.
• Ability to build to WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
• Ability to work with non-technical subject-matter experts and mentor junior developers or student staff.
• Preferred: master's degree, experience in educational technology or learning analytics, and experience with concurrency, rate limits and usage instrumentation.

• Position starts with a three-month contract, with potential to transition to a one-year contract.
