Mechanical Engineer I - Offshore Oil & Gas

About the role

North Oil Company is looking for a Mechanical Engineer I to join its Mechanical Engineering team in Doha, Qatar. The position is an individual contributor with no direct reports, working in a major offshore oil field with many interfaces with other operators of the North Field. It sits under the Mechanical Lead and covers mechanical design, equipment selection and procurement support.

Key responsibilities

• Complete tasks assigned by the Mechanical Lead, write reports and help the lead with departmental activities.
• Evaluate production facility drawings and designs for rotating equipment, installation, layout and HAZOP studies, and take part in preliminary, basic and detailed engineering studies.
• Select and design new mechanical equipment or define modifications, including equipment data sheets, specifications, preliminary GA drawings and inspection and test plans.
• Prepare equipment pre-sizing, calculations, design and supply specifications, and prepare requisitions and technical bid evaluations.
• Develop scopes of work, cost estimates, budgets and technical dossiers for CFT packages, and conduct offshore mechanical surveys.
• Review contractor deliverables, check that they meet NOC quality expectations, and follow up purchase orders through vendor technical reviews and FATs.
• Interface with process, piping and instrumentation disciplines, procurement and the field operations entity, and promote cost-reduction initiatives.
• Train and mentor a Mechanical Engineer Developee, and report to the Mechanical Lead weekly.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering; working towards professional or chartered engineer status.
• At least 7 years of experience in oil and gas, including 5 years of relevant offshore experience covering mechanical rotating equipment.
• Fluent in English and good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions while taking initiative, and to adhere to NOC rules, specifications and procedures safely and on time.
