Simulator Engineer – Operator Training Simulator

About the role

The Methods & Training Division is looking for a Simulator Engineer to maintain operator training simulators, perform periodic system health checks and backups, update simulator models according to plant management of change requirements, and design new simulator troubleshooting training scenarios. The role contributes extensively to Operator Training Simulator (OTS) projects with a high degree of independence.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain simulator software: troubleshoot and fix simulator issues during training, run periodic backups and hardware/software health checks, and liaise with the Centre of Expertise and Maintenance Team on failures.
• Manage antivirus updates and simulator spares, and liaise with the Obsolescence Management Team on hardware and software obsolescence.
• Develop new troubleshooting training scenarios with the Operations Team and Instructors, and manage Management of Change in simulator models.
• Support OTS projects: preliminary analysis and design, scope development and review of Statements of Work, vendor technical clarifications, and definition of technical requirements at project kick-off.
• Take part in model acceptance, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and review of project documentation.
• Build knowledge of techniques and applications across installed simulators and provide simulation expertise to engineering and non-engineering teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably chemical or petrochemical engineering.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in process modelling and OTS environments in oil & gas, LNG, refining, petrochemicals, utilities or related industries.
• Hands-on experience with simulation platforms such as Unisim Operation, Unisim Design, Dynsim, FSIM/SCP and TRISIM.
• Understanding of steady-state and dynamic simulation, and exposure to gas processing, refining, offsites and utilities.
• Sound working knowledge of distributed control and safety systems such as Foxboro, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion, TRICONEX and CCC Control Systems.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English, and strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Preferred: experience supporting OTS systems in LNG, gas processing, refining, petrochemical or utility facilities, and involvement in simulator development, MOC, validation and FAT/SAT testing.
